This post is a journaling exercise, or one you can do in  your head while you sit on the train on your way to what will likely be a hectic day at work.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the last year professionally for you. To create your “best of” list, you’ll have to recall the highlights of 2018—both those that were very public (new jobs, promotions, etc.) and those that were much quieter successes (a meaningful compliment from someone you admire in your field, noticing changes to your company’s culture based on your actions, etc.).

Below are a few prompts to get you thinking through all your best moments in 2018. Try writing or thinking through a response to 1 or to all.

  1. Upon quick reflection on the last 12 months of my career, I’m most proud of ____________________________________.

  2. Some of my quiet victories this year included _____________________ and ____________________.

  3. Ways that I’ve sought balance this year between work and the rest of my life:

  4. I was reminded that I’m heading in the right direction (even if I don’t have all the answers) because ____________________ happened.

  5. I know my work/contribution in the world has been valued this year because ___________________.

  6. I’m proud that I learned this about my professional self this year: ______________________________.
